A new module this week and it’s all about reflexology.
Reflexology is based on the principle that certain parts of the body reflect the whole. Reflex points, which relate to all parts of the body, can be found in the feet, hands, face and ears. These points respond to pressure, stimulating the body’s own natural healing process. The body starts progressively clearing blockages, re-establishing energy flows and balancing itself, resulting in better health. Source:http://www.reflexology.org.au/reflexology/definition
We viewed and discussed the ‘zone to organ relationship chart’ and received a handout on ‘zones’ which gave us the basic understanding of where the pressure points in the body are and how they affect other parts of the body. We learnt by writing down the points on the chart and then colouring each corresponding zone on a blank sheet…helped heaps with remembering although I’m going to have to do a bit of revision before we assessment!
A little online research had us searching for images of conditions. We also learnt about methods to maintain posture and flexibility which is so important in our industry considering we spend a lot of time on our feet or sitting attending to a client.
After watching a reflexology video we ran through the different techniques and then walked through the foot routine outlined in our workbooks.
Tuesday we did a revision on reflexology points and discussed after care advice. We then got some hands on experience performing reflexology massage on each other following the routine in our workbook.
It’s been an interesting module and I don’t think my hands have ever had such a vigorous workout but happy to have another skill in my kit as we move towards the end of the Diploma…7 weeks to go!!
