This guest post was written by Morgan Harris, a graduate of our Diploma in Remedial Massage course.
Before I completed my Diploma in Remedial Massage at Demi International, I really had no idea where the qualification would take me. I’ve always been interested in becoming a massage therapist, but wasn’t aware of all the great opportunities that the massage industry has to offer.
Studying at Demi International really opened my eyes to the many career pathways that a remedial massage qualification can create. I loved every minute of my studies: Read on for 3 reasons why you will, too!
- You’ll meet plenty of interesting new people
Remedial massage therapy is an industry that attracts a diverse range of people from all sorts of backgrounds. My cohort in the remedial massage course at Demi International included men and women aged between 18 and 53, and everyone had a completely different reason for enrolling.
For example, one of my peers was a nurse who wanted to apply her knowledge of anatomy and physiology to a flexible profession that didn’t involve night shifts. Another was a physiotherapist of many years who wanted to provide an additional service to his already-loyal client base. Adding remedial massage services to his offering helped fill in the time between his existing appointments, most of which were in the early morning and late afternoons. As an added bonus, the course also coupled nicely with his Certificate III and Certificate IV in Fitness.
Another student in my class was an experienced beauty therapist who loved massage and wanted to take her knowledge to the next level. Her goal was to treat people’s injuries effectively and offer relaxing remedial massage treatments to clients at her 5-star spa.
Every student in my class was committed to their studies and wanted to become the best possible remedial massage therapist. Studying with such a motivated group of people was inspiring, and helped me make close friendships I’ll have for years to come.
- You’ll have opportunities for further study
One of the many great things about studying remedial massage at Demi International is the pathway to future learning. Demi’s remedial massage course is a great entry point to the industry, and gives you an industry-recognised qualification that you can then build on with further studies.
With a Diploma of Remedial Massage, you can find stable, well-paying work as a Massage Therapist while completing a Bachelor’s degree in a related field like physiotherapy. Demi International offers University Pathways in all their Diploma courses, meaning that completing one of these could give you advanced standing – plus reduce your costs – for related degrees at Southern Cross University and the University of Southern Queensland. It’s a win-win for anyone who wants to continue their studies while working in an exciting, rewarding field.
- You’ll have diverse employment options
One of the best things about a remedial massage qualification is that you can take it pretty much anywhere. Demi International graduates can get ITEC (International Therapy Examination Council) certified, meaning that you could practice anywhere in the world.
Whether you want to travel while working as a remedial massage therapist on a cruise ship or work as a massage therapist on the Tour de France, you’ll have the opportunity to figure out your own career path. Wherever you choose to work, Demi International’s great reputation in the local industry and further afield can help connect you with the right contacts to assist you in your chosen career path.
Since graduating from Demi International with a HLT52015 Diploma of Remedial Massage, I’ve worked as a full-time remedial massage therapist at Coastal Physiotherapy in Maroochydore. I’ve worked within a group of massage therapists at multiple sporting events, where I’ve treated athletes in pre- and post-event stages. I’ve been privileged enough to work with a wonderful, diverse clientele and gain exposure to the industry – none of which would be possible without Demi international and their incredible staff.
Sound like the right career path for you?
I can’t recommend a Diploma in Remedial Massage at Demi International highly enough. There are plenty of positives: The employment outcomes are endless, the friends and contacts you’ll make are invaluable, and you’ll gain practical experience in an exciting industry. At the end of the day, you’ll have a skillset you can take around the world with nothing but some towels, a bed, and some oils!
