What pathway is right for you?
At Demi, we offer hairdressing pathways through both training organisations and apprenticeships. We can help you choose the best option for you to pursue and launch your career in hair.
A registered training organisation offers a faster entry to complete your certification – only 1 year for hairdressing! At Demi you’ll learn in a focused and structured way with strong foundational skills from industry professionals and qualified teachers. You’ll still work hands-on in a salon-based environment with real world clients to apply your theory-based skills.
An apprenticeship gives you the opportunity to start earning and learning at the same time and often there are no upfront fees for the apprentice. You’ll be in the salon everyday learning the ins and outs of the workplace while also learning and practicing the skills you need to succeed. Hairdressing apprenticeships generally take 3-4 years to complete, and you’ll rely on your salon team to be your teachers.
How long does the Certificate III in Hairdressing take?
The course runs across 6 x 10-week terms, combining 2 days a week on campus with around 7 hours of independent study per week. Most students complete their training in a little over a year, with new intakes in January, April, July and October.
Are there entry requirements to study hairdressing?
There are no formal academic prerequisites for the Certificate III in Hairdressing. Demi supports school-based students through VET in Schools partnerships from Year 10 onward, as well as adult learners starting a first or second career.
Can I study a hairdressing course online?
Not fully. Hairdressing is a hands-on trade, so the Certificate III in Hairdressing combines independent study with 2 days a week of in-person, hands-on training at your chosen Demi campus, working with real clients in our training salons.
How does a hairdressing course compare to a hairdressing apprenticeship?
A hairdressing course through an RTO like Demi is the faster route, with structured, focused training from qualified teachers before you apply your skills with real clients. A hairdressing apprenticeship generally takes 3 to 4 years, lets you earn while you learn, and relies on your workplace team to teach you on the job.
How much can a qualified hairdresser earn in Australia?
The average national salary for a hairdresser is up to $75,000, with some Queensland coastal roles reporting salaries over $85,000. Hairdressing educators can earn upwards of $100,000, and freelance stylists and salon owners can set their own rates.
Which Demi International campuses offer the hairdressing course?
The Certificate III in Hairdressing is delivered at our Maroochydore, Chermside, Toowoomba, Cairns, Southport and Ipswich campuses, so you can train close to home with real clients in a working salon environment.
