Sister act: How Chloe and Hannah are turning school days into spa days

Chloe and Hannah - Student Story at Demi

You know that feeling when your sister borrows your clothes without asking? Well, Chloe and Hannah took it one step further – they borrowed each other’s career inspo!

Chloe was the first to take the plunge, signing up for a Diploma of Beauty Therapy while still in high school. A year later, big sister Hannah ditched uni and followed her gut (and her sister) straight to Demi International.

Now, Chloe’s working in a luxury day spa, and Hannah’s just wrapped up her hairdressing and salon management training, with big dreams of opening a business together one day.

From shared lifts to campus, to late-night assignment chats and prize home salon daydreams, these two have done it all side by side. And honestly? We’re here for it.

Starting at school, thinking bigger

When Chloe started her SHB50121 Diploma of Beauty Therapy in 2023, she was still juggling Year 12. But thanks to the flexible training model at Demi, it just worked.

“I only had to be on campus one day a week,” she says. “So I could focus on my schoolwork and still feel like I was doing something for me. It gave me something to look forward to.”

Her decision came from watching her aunt in the beauty industry and having a gut feeling that this could be her thing.

Turns out, she was right.

Hannah’s turn to shine

While Chloe was living her best beauty student life, Hannah was at university – but wasn’t loving it.

“I hated it. Everyone around me was doing the uni thing, so I thought I had to as well. But I was miserable.”

Then she watched Chloe thriving at Demi, and something clicked.

“I’d always thought about doing hair, but kept calling it my ‘backup plan.’ Seeing Chloe do something she actually enjoyed made me realise… maybe the backup plan was the right plan all along.”

So she enrolled for the dual course, SHB30416 Certificate III in Hairdressing and SHB50216 Diploma of Salon Management. Two weeks before term started. No regrets.

Beauty, hair and a whole lot of sisterly support

The girls agree that one of the most valuable parts of studying at Demi has been building people skills… something you can’t learn from a textbook.

“You work with real clients, with other therapists, and you really learn how to communicate in a professional way,” says Chloe. “I loved facials the most – getting to use different products and really understand how skin works.”

For Hannah, it was about learning to stop overthinking everything.

“When I started doing haircuts, I’d stress about making everything perfect. Now I know it doesn’t have to be. You just do your best, and if something’s not right, you fix it.”

Both sisters have a cheeky sense of humour, especially when describing each other. But when it comes to what they admire most, there’s genuine respect underneath the banter.

“Chloe has a really strong work ethic,” Hannah says with pride. “She’s so professional when she’s working. I’ve always noticed that.”

Chloe adds, “Hannah just gets in and gets things done. No fuss. She’s always supported me, and I really look up to her.”

What comes next? Maybe a joint salon…

Right now, Chloe is loving her job at Noosa Springs Spa.

“It’s such a beautiful environment, the team is lovely, and I don’t feel stressed when I go to work. That makes a huge difference.”

Hannah is finishing up her course and has big dreams of one day running her own salon. And yes, they’ve definitely talked about doing it together.

“One of us does hair, one of us does beauty, it makes sense!” says Hannah.

“We were literally manifesting it when we walked through a prize home with a perfect downstairs studio,” laughs Chloe. “We were like, ‘This is it. This is our future salon.’ We didn’t win… but the dream’s still there.”

A family full of support (and blow-dry bookings)

Behind the scenes, their parents have been right there cheering them on.

“Mum’s always wanted to be a hairdresser, so she’s basically living through us now,” says Hannah. “She’s constantly asking for wash and blow-dries.”

“Our aunties are in the industry too, so our family had a pretty good idea of what we were getting into,” adds Chloe. “That helped.”

They’re both proud of how far they’ve come, but agree the biggest win was just choosing a path that felt right.

Their advice for other families?

“If you’re thinking about it, go in for a tour,” says Chloe. “It’s so helpful to see the campus and ask questions.”

“And don’t overthink it,” says Hannah. “I enrolled just two weeks before the term started. I knew it was the right fit, and I’d do it all again.”
